Originally from Saint-Basile, in northwest New Brunswick, Dr. Levesque graduated from University of Waterloo in 1994. He then moved to Halifax where he worked for a year and a half. Dr. Levesque purchased the Liverpool office in 1996 and started another one in Digby that same year. He really enjoys practicing in friendly rural Nova-Scotia. He is licensed to prescribe medication to treat ocular infection, dry eyes and ocular allergies in addition to removing foreign bodies.
Dr. Levesque has always been very involved in the Nova Scotia Association of Optometrists and served on council of that organization for four years. Most of his time outside the office is now being spent with his young kids and wife. When he has some spare time, he enjoys playing hockey, downhill skiing, swimming, sailing and playing tennis.
Dr Sara Wilkinson
Originally from Port Mouton, Dr. Sara Wilkinson graduated from Dalhousie University in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science degree (Advanced Major in Biology). She then attended the University of Waterloo. She worked at our Liverpool office as a student and also did her externship with Dr. Levesque. Dr. Wilkinson graduated in 2004 with a Doctor of Optometry degree.
Dr. Wilkinson began working at the Digby location in August 2004 soon after graduating. She is a member of the Nova Scotia Association of Optometrists and the Canadian Association of Optometrists.
In her spare time Dr. Wilkinson enjoys skating, curling and spending time with family and friends.
Dr Brandea Balcomb
After spending time practicing in British Columbia and Ontario, Dr. Brandea Balcomb is excited to be back home in Nova Scotia! She spent her childhood growing up in Granville Centre and attending school in Annapolis Royal. After graduating from Annapolis West Education Centre, she attended Acadia University and the University of Waterloo. She graduated from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry and Vision Science in 2010 with her Doctor of Optometry degree on the Dean's Honours list. During her studies, she was able to complete a primary care externship with Drs. Wilkinson and Levesque at Digby Eye Care Center. She also completed an externship in ocular disease and therapeutics at John-Kenyon American Eye Institute, learning from 2 optometrists and 5 ophthalmologists whose specialties included cataracts, cornea, refractive surgery, retina and glaucoma.
In 2010, Dr. Balcomb spent 6 weeks volunteering at Lions Sight First Eye Hospital, a part of Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital, in Blantyre, Malawi. She was able to help people by performing eye exams not only in the hospital, but also by travelling to remote areas of Malawi to provide eye care to those who would otherwise not have access.
Outside of work, Dr. Balcomb enjoys knitting, sewing, reading, training for triathlons, downhill skiing and spending time with her husband Andrew and their cats Jack and Penny.
She is a member of the Canadian Association of Optometrists, the Nova Scotia Association of Optometrists, the Nova Scotia College of Optometrists, the Ontario Association of Optometrists and the College of Optometrists of Ontario.
Crystal graduated from Nova Scotia Community College in the spring of 1984 from a two year Graphic Art & Design program. She worked for a computer software and internet company for seven years prior to joining Dr. Levesque’s office in July 1996. She completed the Optometric Assistant course in July 1999, the first year it was offered in Canada. Crystal has been with our team since the beginning in July 1996 and brings years of experience in helping you choose frames and lenses that best suites your needs.
Lisa joined our eye care team in March of 2004. She became a certified optometric assistant in July of 2005. Lisa now works full time in our Digby practice in our edging lab.
Jackie first joined our team in February of 1997. She left for a couple of years to help with her husband’s refrigeration business. Jackie completed her course and became a Certified Optometric Assistant in October 2007. Jackie will be happy to help you select your new set of eye glasses as well as answer any questions you might have.
Sabrina joined our team in October 2013. She has just recently completed her Optometric Assistant's course to become a Certified Optometric Assistant. Sabrina is originally from Digby, and after backpacking across Europe, she is excited to be home permanently. Sabrina is estatic to be a member of the Digby Eye Care team and enjoys pretesting our patients before they see the optometrist.
Rhonda is the newest member to join our team. She will be taking her Optometric Assistant's course in October and will train at both the Digby and Annapolis locations. Rhona brings with her years of experience with customer service and will be a great asset to the company. Rhonda will spend most of her time at the Annapolis location once her training is complete.
Jill is the newest addition to our eyecare team. Jill has experience working in customer service and her infectious smile is the first thing you will see when you arrive at reception. Jill is training to begin her Optometric Assistant's Course later on in the fall. She will be more than happy to assist you when you arrive whether it be to pretest you for your exam, or to help you with adjustments or repairs.
